Needed model flies

Requirements for model flies

Starting with the model flying hobby? Not sure how to start or do you have a lot of questions?

On this page I want to tell you something about the model flying hobby and what it involves.

If you want to start with the model flying hobby, you will soon be faced with many questions.

That is why we tell you a few things on this page to make the start a bit easier.

The beginning of this hobby is actually very important, if you don't do this well, the fun will soon disappear. Never start on your own, but go to a model flying club and look around there, and ask how best to start.

I know from experience if you buy an airplane and fly it yourself that there is a good chance that you will not keep the plane intact.

Each club has one or more instructors who can help you.

The model airplane

As a beginner it is difficult to choose the right model aircraft.

You have a wide range in it. For example, you can choose from:
small, large, jets, 3D, low-deckers, overcovers, DIY, foam, wood, plastic, fuel engine, electro

Besides the model airplanes, there are of course also the model helicopters and drones.

Which model airplane?

The Engine

If you choose an aircraft with an engine, you still have to make the choice between flying with fuel engines and / or electric engines.

A motor-driven model airplane flies on a fuel engine or an electric motor, the auxiliary engine for a glider is always an electric motor.

With a fuel engine, you should fill up with fuel first if you want to fly.

In case of electric motors, you should charge the batteries first.

Both engine types have their advantages and disadvantages, so this choice is always personal.

We will describe the most important points here, so you can include them in your choice.

The advantage of fuel is that you can generally do many more flights.

After all, refueling is done in no time and you can continue flying.

Batteries need to be charged when they have flown empty and this charging takes some time, you can buy several batteries but this is much more expensive.

The advantage of electronics is the low noise nuisance.

and with electro you can be flown more often and in many more places.

Radio control (Transmitters)

A special band has been reserved for flying model aircraft (the 35MHz).
A number of channels are available on this band.
Both your transmitter and your receiver must be set to the same channel.
Check with your club which channels are used the least.
The advantage of flying on the 35MHz is that it is now quite cheap because this technology is already outdated.
The disadvantage is that it can be quite susceptible to interference.
Nowadays it is also possible to fly on 2.4 GHz.
The 2.4 GHz is the most reliable because the interference between the pilots is zero.
It is therefore preferable for novice pilots to choose this reliable system.
The choice of a channel is also personal and difficult to give advice on it.
But if you purchase a transmitter, it is advisable to choose a 6 channel transmitter or more, you will benefit more from this later.

charge the battery and refuel

If you have made the choice for an airplane, transmitter and engine, it is important that you can charge the batteries at Electro.
And can refuel with fuel.
So now you still have to make a choice.

There are various brands of battery chargers on the market for Electro, get well informed and look for a charger that you can use in the future.
brand is of course personal again.

If you are going to use fuel engines then you need a fuel pump with which you can pump the fuel from the jerry can to the tank in your plane, and vice versa.
You can opt for only a separate fuel pump, but there are also jerry cans on the market that include the fuel tank.
Again, the choice is personal, so be well informed.
